Huambo — Participants to a round-table meeting on Poverty in Rural Areas, held on Saturday in Huambo City, were unanimous in saying that the fight against hunger and misery in Angola has necessarily to go through a reinforced and specialised investment in agricultural family firms.
According to them agricultural family firms in the region employ a high number of peasants.
For these firms to help fight poverty, they said, production and trade circuits have to be created, as well as dynamic strategies to provide technical support to these family agricultural enterprises.
The participants also defended the holding of a serious work of seeds selection, aimed at assessing their quality.
The round-table discussion was promoted by the Studies and Scientific Research Centre (CEIC) of the Angolan Catholic University, in partnership with the ngo Action for Angola's Rural Development (ADRA).
The event was attended by university lecturers and students, journalists, consultants and activists of civil society organisations.
