Luanda — Angola's national team of football for women came second in the fifth edition of the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (Cosafa) Cup, after losing to two-time winner, South Africa by 3-1, in the country's first experience in hosting such competitions.
After a first phase unbeaten, with three running wins in group A, the Angolan squad proved their good moment on Thursday's semi-final, thrashing Zimbabwe 3-0, thus qualifying for the final without suffering any goal in the competition.
Earlier on, Angola, the host for the tournament that took place from May 3-10 in the cities of Benguela and Malanje, defeated Mozambique by 4-0, Swaziland (2-0) and Namibia (3-0).
Meanwhile, the triumphant campaign of the national team ran into a stumbling block in the final of Malanje city on Saturday, when South Africa beat Angola 3-1, with goals scored by striker Maklou. Angolan captain, Guigui, scored the national team's sole goal in the match.
Zimbabwe came third after beating Namibia by 10-9, in penalty kicks.
