BAlmost a month after failing to capture the Kenya Derby, the Sam Wachira trained Ten Thirty returns to Ngong this afternoon to try her luck in the Standard Chartered Bank Kenya Oaks at Ngong Racecourse.

During the Derby race sponsored this year by the Nation Media Group's Business Daily, the Mary Binks owned Ten Thirty was in contention until a 100m out when she was out paced by Warui with Ibrahim Wachira aboard to eventually finished in second placed.

She had started as one of the favourites in the Derby because of her triumph earlier during the Derby Trial race.

In Sunday's race, her only possible challenger in the mile and half (2,400m) a female equivalent of the Derby are likely to be Chinook with veteran Steve Njuguna aboard.

Others are Damara being ridden by visiting South African jockey Tim Pretorius and Just Divine who will be under the able hands of another South African rider Ralton Peters.

There are eight races altogether in the Standard Chartered Bank sponsored meeting. They include the Foreign Exchange Condition over 1,600m for the Civil Service Gold Cup.

Impressive field

This is the third leg in the George Drew Series with an impressive field of 10 runners who includes Cellini a winner of the first leg the Delamere Gold Vase and Secret War who won the second leg (Kenya Gold Cup).

The battle here is again likely to be between the two though Valentino a winner of the Graham Trophy and being ridden today by Julie McCann also has a good chance.
