St Mary's Kitende defeated Mehta Secondary School 4-2 on penalties to lift the Copa Coca-Cola Cup here on Saturday evening.
Regulation time had ended goalless but the Wakisobased school made no mistake in the shoot
out, equalling Kololo's record of winning the trophy three consecutive times.
Moses Okello fired his kick wide while skipper Arthur Kato hit the bar as newcomers Mehta fluffed the opportunity to take the title on their debut. The defending champions Kitende were missing the services of their inspiration captain Mike Mutyaba through suspension and failed to create any clear-cut chances in the game. They only came close to scoring once when SCVilla's Chris Natambi headed from corner.

Mehta's danger man Godfrey Buni failed to reproduce the form he showed in the preliminaries and was kept at bay by the Kitende defence as the match failed to come to life. Kitende tactician Joseph Katana commended his charges for the compusre and equalling Kololo's record. "I don't think the boys had it (the record) in mind. They have been performing bravely throughout the tournament and deserved a reward, which is the title and the record," said Katana.
Despite having a torrid time in the final, Buni was voted tournament's Most Valuable Player (MVP). Masaka SS' Paddy Akugizibwe top scored with 14 goals though his team didn't advance to the second round. Enroute to the
final, Kitende eliminated Old Kampala in the semis 1-0 while Mehta edged Macllaister 4-2 on penalities after a 1-1 regular time draw.
