Eritrea: Micro-Dam Under Construction Through Coordinated Efforts of Inhabitants of Embeito And Azaiha

10 May 2008

Embeito — A micro-dam is under construction at a cost of over 8 million Nakfa through the coordinated efforts of the inhabitants of Embeito and Azaiha, Southern region.

The micro-dam being constructed through Bidho Construction Company has a capacity of holding over 500,000 cubic meters of water, according to Mr. Michael Tesfamariam, the project supervisor.

Once the project is finalized, it is expected to provide potable water supply to the inhabitants of the two localities, in addition to facilitating irrigation farming over nearby 25 hectares. Reports indicated that the local inhabitants used to travel long distance to fetch water that was not up to standard.

The Administrator of the Embaito administrative area, Mr. Tesfasilasie Elias, commended the initiative of the inhabitants of the two administrative areas and called on others to emulate it.

The inhabitants of Embeito and Azaiha also hosted a luncheon in honor of the employees engaged in the undertaking.
