TIMES Printpak Zambia Limited will soon acquire the latest state-of-art printing press aimed at improving production and compete favourably on the market.
Company managing director, Arnold Kapelembi announced on Saturday in Ndola when he officiated at the Labour Day awards ceremony for Copperbelt-based workers that the process had reached an advanced stage.
"We arrived at this undertaking so that we can improve production and compete favourably on the market because it is not easy to remain viable with the old state of equipment," he said.
Mr Kapelembi said the company had procured four vehicles for circulation and courier services and it was also in the process of buying more vehicles for editorial services and the sales and marketing, a move aimed at improving service delivery.
With all the equipment in place, the managing director urged the employees to work hard towards improving production and, subsequently improve the conditions of service.
"You will have the right tools soon, therefore, management expects maximum production, and it is imperative to keep the company afloat," Mr Kapelembi said.
He congratulated the recipients of various awards and urged those that did not receive anything to work hard this year so that their efforts could be recognised.
Zambia Union of Journalists (ZUJ) Ndola chapel chairperson, Jonathan Bwalya who echoed Mr Kapelembi's on hard working said it would be unfair to pressurise management to increase salaries and improve conditions of service when production was low.
"It is not good to put unnecessary pressure on management for improved conditions of service and salaries when we can't perform to meet the challenges," he said.
He said the union would not condone poor performance because that would cost the company a lot.
Mr Bwalya also paid tribute to departed workers who had contributed to the company.
And deputy features editor, Potipher Tembo, who has 33 years of service and urged the workers to reflect on their performance.
Mr Tembo, who gave the vote of thanks said: "I just want each and everyone of us to reflect on what the managing director has said. We should double our efforts to ensure that the company does not collapse."
Others that received long service awards were Dennis Mpange for 30 years service while Jowell Mambwe who was recognised for working for 25 years.
