POLICE in Kawambwa have arrested three juveniles for gang-raping a 20-year-old pregnant woman.

The boys, aged 12, 13 and 17 years, respectively, of Kabanda village in Chief Mushota's area, are alleged to have overpowered and taken turns on the woman last week.

Luapula Province police chief, Dobson Siame confirmed the development yesterday and said the woman was also of the same village in Kawambwa.

Mr Siame said police apprehended the three suspects after the woman reported the matter soon after the ordeal.

He said police were still investigating the incident and that the three were due to appear in court soon.

And a Mufulira driver died on Friday after the bus he was driving failed to negotiate a hilly area near Kaputa.

The driver, identified as Felix Mwape, died about 125 kilometres from Kaputa boma and was driving a Tata bus, registration ACE 1671.

Mr Siame said the incident happened around 12:30 hours and that the driver met his fate after asking the passengers to disembark.

He said the driver feared that the loaded bus would not manage to climb over the hilly area and decided to have the passengers disembark.

"Unfortunately, even without passengers, the bus failed to negotiate its way up and rolled back and he crashed to his death on his own," he said.
