Nairobi — Internal Security Minister Prof George Saitoti Sunday dismissed predictions that the grand coalition government will soon disintegrate.

The cabinet minister said such calls were unfounded and remained optimistic that it will last for five years.

Prof Saitoti said that government had ministers who were committed enough to ensure that the country remains united.

This, he added, will ensure that the country does not witness a repeat of the violence that saw more than 1,200 people and 350,000 others displaced.

Said Prof Saitoti, "Prophets of doom have already predicted that the grand coalition will not last long as it will be marred with division. They are wrong."

He added, "We want to tell them that we are united and that this coalition government will be around for a really long time."

Prof Saitoti spoke moments after attending a church service in Ongata Rongai in his Kajiado North constituency.
