The Teachers Union in Arusha (CWT ) has decried the government reluctance to pay teachers allowances and arrears unless they threatened to strike.

Nuru Shenkorwa, the Arumeru District CWT secretary expressed the concern on May Day workers' celebrations when he read the teachers speech at the Sheikh Amri Abeid Stadium.

Shenkorwa said although the government had paid the teachers some of their dues, their demands were far from being met adding that CWT would take action to force the government to meet all their demands.

The secretary asked the government not to wait until a workers strikes loomed before it took action.

Shenkorwa also called on the government to avoid all forms of discriminations among workers and should treat them equally as they all served the nation.

The teachers complained on high interest rates being charged by financial institutions in the country saying such rates were exploitative on the already poor workers.
