Angola: UN Representative for Disarming in Luanda

UN high official responsible for disarming issues, Sergio de Queiros Duarte, arrived on Sunday in Luanda where he will participate in the 27th meeting of the central African states, on May 13-15, ANGOP has said.

Speaking to the press, at Luanda "4 de Fevereiro" International Airport, Sergio de Queiros Duarte said he is carrying a message from the UN secretary-general, Ban Ki-moon, for the participants to the gathering.

The official considered that this meeting is very important taking into account that the matters expected to be debated (relating to security) are of the interest of all countries.

The event is being organised by Angola and will have the participation of Cameroon, Gabon, Burundi, Congo Brazzaville, Rwanda, Equatorial Guinea, Central Africa Republic,Chad, Sao Tome and Principe and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

In Angola, the UN official will meet with the ministers of Home Affairs, Foreign Affairs and Defence.

The Angolan President, Jose Eduardo dos Santos, created in May this year a national commission for the disarmament of civilians in illegal possession of fire-guns, which is co-ordinated by the Premier Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos.
