Harare

Two people were arrested for allegedly defrauding a Sunningdale man of US$10 000 and attempting to defraud $900 billion last week.

The two are being charged on two separate counts of fraud.

Appearing before a Harare magistrate Ms Olivia Mariga this week, John Machipisa (32) of Unit K and Tendai Chakanyuka (25) of Unit H in Chitungwiza pleaded not guilty to the fraud charges.

It is the state's case that on February 23 this year, Machipisa and Chakanyuka advertised in The Herald purporting that they were selling a stand in Bunnockburn Township for US$10 000. Mr Abraham Garuza, who is the complainant, responded and paid the money through Fairvest Real Estate Private Limited company, it is claimed. However, on following up, it is alleged Mr Garuza realised that the stand was not being sold and that it belonged to Sheila Rose Chipo Nyandoro. It is also alleged that on April 24 this year, the two advertised again purporting that they were selling the same stand in Bunnockburn Township for $900 billion.

Mr Garuza responded and when the two agreed to meet him in St Martins for the conclusion of the sale, he informed the police leading to the arrest of the pair.
