Uganda: KCC FC Close in On Super League Title

Kampala — KCC FC could emulate Premiership giants Manchester United or Chelsea by literally being crowned domestic league champions today. All the yellow submarine has to do is beat closest title challenger Police FC at Namboole Stadium, and hope that SC Villa falter against army side Simba.

A victory for KCC and either a draw or defeat for Villa will grant the Lugogo-based outfit a five-point lead over second-placed Police with just a game to play.

Coach George Nsimbe's outfit edged a step closer to an eighth title - the first since 1997 - after grinding out a goalless draw with second title challenger, Villa on Friday. It was an instantly forgettable and lacklustre derby, but KCC would care less if today's results swing in their favour.

KCC's restricted concerns stem from the fact that on any other day, the Jogoos could have deprived them of even their relished point had Moses Aduni and Steven Bengo finished off their match-winning chances in the final quarter of the derby.

While Man United will turn to one of their old students, Steve Bruce at Wigan, for favours, KCC will similarly look to one of their former loyal players at Simba in the shape of Sam Ssimbwa.

Ssimbwa and Nsimbe were part of the famous KCC side that plundered unprecedented silverware in the 1980s.
