THE Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC) has warned the Kiboga Police against torturing inmates. A UHRC team recently visited the 16 detention centres in Kyenjojo and Kiboga districts where they said they were alarmed at inmates' testimonies of alleged torture by the Police.

UHRC chairperson Margaret Sekaggya said: "The UHRC team cautioned the Police officers against the practice and sensitised them on the rights of inmates and the obligations of the Police in protecting and promoting human rights."

Sekaggya was recently briefing the press about the detention centres that the commission had visited in the country.
