THERE was no Ugandan on probation in the last show. After our girl, Naava Asha (pictured) was saved from eviction by the teachers on Sunday, we can sigh "so-far-so-good. That was not the highlight of the week gone by, though. How could it have been, with that titanic clash of egos on Sunday, between co-MC, Gaetano and Kenyan judge, Ian?

Sunday's nominations took an unexpected twist, coming after Kenyan contestant Magdalyne's "Butterfly eviction party" the previous day. Somehow, all the four new nominees happened to be girls - Wendy and Alice (Kenya), and Tanzanians Linah and Asha Ramadhani Mashauri. Poor Asha seemed to get overwhemed by nervousness after the Sunday show. The academy's paramedics whisked her off to hospital, from where doctors recommended she leaves the academy.

Judge Ian Mbugua's attempts at nastiness are quite sickening, but he still remains highly quotable. Like when he told Hemedi during the live presentation in which he did Neyo's So Sick. "I'm sick of that song! Hemedi, you have talent, but I'm sure it's not in music. It's in a third rate Mexican soap!"

A while on, and for some reason, Gaetano felt the need to ask Ian to explain what he meant by "below par" in describing some contestants' performances, reminding the judge that "this is not golf".

"Learn English, you twit! This is my time to speak. Just stand there and look confused as usual," Ian would shoot back.

An air of defiance to the judges (read Ian) soon pervaded the air. The MCs, the contestants, the audience, even the teachers felt the judge's powers were becoming a raw, untamed force. Said the Principal, Acheng': "The judging has been semantic and not technocratic." Even with the sad news about Asha's predicament, the Principal still christened this "smile week," in recognition of the contestants' good live gigs in which she commended them for balancing singing with stage performance.

The Hemedi-Wendy, David-Magdalyne love rectangle seems unstoppable yet, although Principal Achieng' has warned it is one of the surest ways to probation. With none of the five Ugandans manifesting any signs of love yet, this is a further boost to our chances.

Tusker Project Fame's eviction shows on WBS at 8:30pm on Saturday, with a performance the next day
