The Ministry of Education has established that there are rumours going around that the schools are opening on a day contrary to the school calendar, it was announced in a press statement.

"The Ministry wishes to inform parents, learners, teachers and school principals that the school calendar for 2008 has not changed. All schools will open on 13 May and it is important that parents should contact their children's school for further information," said the acting under secretary of formal education, Charles Kabajani.

Listed below are the dates for the school re-opening for teachers and learners for the second school trimester as per the school calendar:

English One-day Workshop

A one-day English workshop for teachers is to be held tomorrow by the British Council Namibia under the theme: "Teaching English - Transformation and Development". The British Council Southern Africa English language programme manager will be addressing the workshop starting at 14h30 at the Safari Conference Hall.

Health Launch Event

The Ministry of Health and Social Services will officially launch its Therapeutics Information and Pharmacovigilance Centre (TIPC) today at the Safari Court Hotel and Conference Centre in the Kuiseb conference room.

Exhibits will open at 09h00, with the official programme commencing at 10h00.

Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Social Services, Dr Norbert Forster, will deliver the keynote address. He will be joined at the launch by Peter Gichangi, Senior HIV/AIDS
