A teens' day out, oh, yes it was. But it was also a day for the youth to award those they regard highly. It was the day of the Buzz Teeniez Awards - Saturday last week at KCC Grounds, Lugogo. The usually deserted access road from Shoprite all the way to the venue was choked with activity as youth thronged their equivalent of the Pearl of Africa Music Awards.

Looking glamorous in their stylish best and asserting their presence with bling-bling and pseudo-American accents, teens from a variety of schools around the country celebrated their role models at the awards' second ceremony since their launch last year.

The award-issuing was punctuated by interludes in which artistes like Michael Ross, Bebe Cool, Lyrical G, Klear Kut, Vampos and Benon wowed the predominantly teen audience.

After winning in the category of Teeniez Male Artiste of the Year last year, Bebe Cool once again took home a plaque for the same slot, beating Bobi Wine, Michael Ross and Peter Miles to it. An excited Bebe welcomed his win with open arms, saying, in his acceptance speech, that teens have a much better judgement, and that an award conferred upon him by the youth means a lot more. Could he have meant to add " than a PAM Award?" Whatever. Fire Burn Dem, Bebe's collaboration with Dizzy Nuts, also won Teeniez Hottest Riddim, displacing Michael Ross' Yooyo among others.

Songbird Juliana Kanyomozi won Teeniez Female Artiste of the Year, beating Iryn Namubiru, Bella and Desire Luzinda to the award. She also won Teeniez Gospel Song for Kanyimbe. But she wasn't around to pick her awards.

Moze Radio, Suna and Weasel's Nakudata hit made the trio win Teeniez Hottest Collabo.

Blu*3 won Hottest Group and Flyest Video for Burrrn, while WBS' Rachel K was honoured Hottest TV personality.

Teeniez Student Achiever of the Year went to 17-year-old Martin Kaddu, a Senior Five student of Uganda Martyr's Namugongo, having showcased 22 certificates he has so-far won in this and that. Along with his win came a mobile phone from the awards' sponsor Uganda Telecom and sh1m worth of school fees among other goodies.

Teeniez Head Teacher of the Year was Lawrence Mukiibi of the St. Lawrence schools, displacing last year's Victoria Kisarale of Gayaza High School.

Angella Katatumba also displaced Ronnie Mich Egwang as Teeniez Role Model of the Year. Being a youth thing, the crowd had to be hoarded out of the venue by 7:00pm to go back home. And towards the cut-off, Kenya's Red San, whom the crowd had eagerly waited for since the beginning of the ceremony at 10:00am, did the last gig that left them yearning for more.
