Uganda: Hepatitis Virus Hits Kitgum District

A Total of 1,262 cases of the new Hepatitis E virus have been reported in Kitgum District. The health ministry announced on Friday that of these, 25 have died and the virus has spread to four other sub-counties.

Health minister Dr. Stephen Mallinga told journalists in Kampala that the virus, which was first reported in Madi Opei Sub-county, has spread to the sub-counties of Agoro, Paloga, Mucwini and Kitgum Matidi.

Last week 156 new cases were reported, Mallinga said.
