United States Embassy sponsored three officers from the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) to attend an Assessment Needs Conference at the International Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) in Gaborone, Botswana. The clinic is slated for April 14-16.

The confab, which will be attended by Kadie Fakondo, Assistant Inspector General of Police, Training, Richard Moigbe Assistant Inspector General of Police, Operations and Thomas Lahai, Chief Superintendent of Police offered the opportunity to identify key training needs of the SLP.

Sierra Leone was one of the six new African countries recently selected for membership into ILEA.

Beginning in September 2008, officers from the SLP will attend courses at ILEA and receive quality United States government sponsored law enforcement training.

The training will be provided by instructors from United States government Federal Law Enforcement agencies.

An official of the American Embassy in Freetown Michael Sopko accompanied the group to Botswana.

United States Ambassador to Sierra Leone Ambassador June Carter Perry said the SLP has been undergoing massive improvements and the United States government will continue to support the force.
