The ministry of agriculture, forestry and food security and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) last week certified 1,025 farmers from the farmer field schools in three chiefdoms within Bo district.

The ceremony took place at the Koribondo Court Barray, Jiaima Bongor chiefdom.

Keynote speaker Simeon Fatorma frowned at youths for failing to put interest in agriculture.

He encouraged women to actively contribute to the development of the agricultural sector.

Fatorma said agriculture must be treated with the utmost seriousness.

Food and Agricultural Organization's representative Tejan Kiela called on the farmers to put premium on farming for the sake of food security.

He confirmed that a US$ 35 million is on its way to Sierra Leone for farmers to benefit from.

Kiela said a bag of rice is liken to reach Le 200,000 as a result of the world market trend, which the government must try to avoid by letting the whole nation go into agriculture.
