The Sierra Leone Red Cross Society (SLRCS) in Bo last Saturday donated 12 pints of blood to the Medicien Sans Frontier (MSF) hospital at Gondama for an onward transfusion to patients who are in dire need of blood.

The donation was part of the Red Cross role to save lives of people in need of blood at all times.

Operations Coordinator Morrison Aruna told Concord Times that the Red Cross took along 15 volunteers for the donation but that three people failed the screening test, which was why their blood was rejected.

Due to the problems of getting blood at the MSF hospital, part of the blood already donated was immediately transfused into patients.

Aruna said the donation is a beginning of the Red Cross continued gesture to the Gondama MSF hospital.
