THE Swedsish International Development Agency (SIDA) has given $13,000 (about sh30m) to Katabi sub-county in Wakiso district for wetland maintenance around Entebbe.

The money will be used under the Lake Victoria region local authorities cooperation programme.

It is aimed at strengthening participatory community-based regulation and administration of wetland resources in Kitala and Nkumba parishes, Dr. Julius Ayo-Odongo, the secretary general, the Katabi sub-county wetland conservation sustainable wetland management project, explained recently.

The project will engage wetland resource users like farmer and the fishing communities through best practices.

Muyanja Senyonga, the Mukono mayor, said the project would increase compliance to wetland legislation.
