BLUE Waters gave themselves a push in a bid to avoid the relegation axe after they surprisingly beat Eleven Arrows 3-1 in a derby match at Walvis Bay on Saturday, while Fedics United downed fellow premiership rookies Mighty Gunners 2-1 in Keetmanshoop on the same day.
Civics got away with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Tigers at the Khomasdal Stadium when the experienced striker Floris Diergaardt, volleyed neatly into the Tigers net to keep his team in contention for the title.
African Stars did however not make most of their trip to the Oshakati Independence Stadium, when they managed to grab a point in their goalless draw against hosts Oshakati City.
On Friday evening, Black Africa had the better of Sport Klub Windhoek (SKW) when they ran out as 2-0 winners at the Khomasdal Stadium, a result that placed SKW's credibility of being serious title contenders.
Blue Waters, also known as the Birds, are currently fighting relegation for the second season running, after the departure of Shepherd Murape at the start of this season.
Murape won two straight league titles when he took over at Blue Waters in 2003, but is currently employed at the relegation threatened Black Leopards in South Africa, while former Eleven Arrows coach Lucky Shipanga, is reported to have taken over the reins at the Birds.
With less than six matches to go, Blue Waters will be required to win any match possible to make the chop, but with the current squad which is only left with few experienced players, it will be a tall order.
Rock bottom premiership rookies Fedics United, made use of their home ground advantage to upset Mighty Gunners in what could turn out as a tight race for survival at the end of the season.
Two teams will get the axe when the season closes later in June, but at this stage, Fedics United are certain to re-join the Southern Stream First Division.
BRIBERY ALLEGATIONS Eleven Arrows' shock loss over their fiercest rivals Blue Waters, did not come without talks of certain officials being bribed for the match.
The Namibian Sport however does not have proof of any bribes that were accepted, while such a possibility was ruled out as both teams needed the points.
Arrows long serving striker, Robson Haitamba, said he does not believe that anyone approached their management or team players for that purpose.
"We both needed the points and I don't think it was really possible for anyone to accept bribes.
The fact is that we played poorly on the day and we lost the match through our own mistakes," said the former Brave Warriors player.

Blue Waters led 2-1 after scoring at the stroke of half-time, before wrapping up the match in the second half.
