Tunis — The Farhat Hached zoological park in Rades, south of Tunis, witnessed the birth recently of a rare species: a blue-eyed dromedary with a rusty brown and white skin.
To the great delight of the many children who visit the park with their parents, 'Massoud' its name, weighs 20 kilograms , and measures about 1 meter 10 centimetres .
This very rare species which incidentally are reputed to distinguish themselves by their unequalled speed during dromedary races, was introduced in the park some two years ago.
This type of dromedary is usually raised by Toureg tribes living on the border between Mali and Chad , but also by Saharan tribes living between Mauritania and Morocco .
Its immaculate blue eyes which confer to the animal a singular and rare beauty, are a source of curiosity for the park's visitors who have seldom been exposed to such an oddity .
The Farhad Hached zoological park in Rades is ranked third in Tunisia for its bio- diversity after the Belvedere in Tunis and Friguia near Sousse .
