The scornful attitude of Akwaya political barons towards the tribal crisis in the constituency has proved that Akwaya has not got any real representation.
In fact, the first ever recorded local crisis in the 21st century that is lasting over five months without any attempt from any one to seek for peace. Many people are dead as a result of this ugly event, thousands are going on hungry, no place for shelter, school activities raped, economic issues dislocated and movement restricted. With all these, nobody seems to know what is happening.
The President of the Union has made several failed attempts to meet some Akwaya elite and so-called leaders to discuss on measures to re-institute peace between the warring factions.
It is as a result of this that the Students' Union met on Sunday, May 4, at the University of Buea and resolved to solicit for divine intervention from all denominations for peace to rein in Akwaya again.
The students also observed that if this ugly incident continues the banditry rate in Akwaya will be increased in the near future. This is because children whose parents were killed in the crisis and betrayed of acquiring education will stop at nothing to make ends meet.
It is also noticed that in every five years political adventurers invade Akwaya for deceptive campaigns and when they grab cheap votes, they go and don't think of even throwing mere words of thank you to the people.
Since Akwaya is fallen down the slopes because of the abuse of responsibility from leaders, sheer parochial sentiments among tribes which are impeding development, the Union is therefore recommending that:
Akwaya political elite should play politics at their places of residence, that is Yaounde, Buea, Kumba, Bamenda and allow the people residing in Akwaya who know the terrain and peculiar problems of the Akwaya people.
Government should take decisive action in re-instituting the displaced people as a result of the crisis because she might lose them to the Nigerian government that is taking adequate care.
