Northwest Journalists under the umbrella of the Cameroon Association of English Speaking Journalists, CAMASEJ, have raised FCFA 881,500 for the newly created Northwest Development Organisation, NOWEDO.
The money was raised during the launching of NOWEDO recently at Ayaba Hotel, Bamenda. The journalists handed the money to pioneer executive of NOWEDO on May 8 at Dream Land Restaurant, Bamenda. Other items handed included a logo, letter heads, stamp and stamp pad, amongst others.
The new organisation initiated by Ntumfor Nico Halle and launched by the Northwest Chapter of the Cameroon Association of English Speaking Journalists, CAMASEJ, alongside other development stakeholders in the province, comes after the death of other development organisations
At the launching, ace journalist Gideon Taka, in a vote of thanks said NOWEDO was born thanks to Ntumfor Nico Halle, who challenged journalists in 2007 to take up development of the Northwest.
According to the vote of thanks, NOWEDO was seeing the light of day thanks to the "exceptional generosity and useful advise other CAMASEJ patrons like Edwin Fongod, Hon Emmanuel Yogo, Prince David Achirimbi and John Begheni Ndeh.
After reviewing and adopting the 32 Article Constitution of NOWEDO, the pioneer executive committee was put in place through elections under the watchful eyes of Rev Father Tatah Mbuy.
Retired Country Director at the World Food Programme Office in Congo Brazzaville, Benedict Fultang, was elected pioneer President General of NOWEDO. Tangye Suh Nfor, Principal of GBHS Santa and Ignatius Dingha Bayin, Bamenda Pay Master General, were elected Secretary General and Treasurer General respectively.
Others elected into NOWEDO executive include Madam Elizabeth Tatang as Financial Secretary, Dr Henry Njakoi as Projects Coordinator, Simon Nkwenti as Organising Secretary and Choves Loh as Public Relations Officer.
Brainstorming on the way forward, NOWEDO exco agreed to visit Northwest Governor, Abakar Ahamat, constitute a file for legal recognition, and get an interim office space for NOWEDO Secretariat. The exco also agreed to formally introduce themselves to Northwest Fons' Union, NOWEFU.
Meantime, the United Nations Information Officer at the United Nations Information Centre in Yaounde, Madame Anne Nsang, who was special guest at NOWEDO launching, donated a computer to United Nations Press Club, Bamenda, to work in collaboration with NOWEDO.
