Mount Cameroon FC of Buea, Astre of Douala, and Cotonsport of Garoua, all Cameroon's flag bearers in this year inter-continental competitions picked qualification tickets for the group stages in the African Confederations and Champions League Cup.

Mount Cameroon of Buea on Sunday, May 11, picked a dramatic ticket by walloping Ajax of Cape Town, South Africa, 5-0 in the return leg game at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium to qualify on 6-5 aggregate.

Ajax had earlier beaten Mount Cam 5-1 a fortnight ago in the first leg game in South Africa.

The Lava-boys netted three goals in the first segment of the game before completing the scores upon resumption, thus qualifying for the next round of the Confederations Cup.

Another Confederations Cup representative, Astre of Douala also qualified for the group stage on Friday, May 9, by benefiting from the away goal rule. Astre drew with AS Vita club of Kinshasa 1-1 after they played a zero all tie a fortnight ago at the Ahmadou Ahidjo stadium.

Cotonsport of Garoua on Friday, May 9, in Algeria, created history by qualifying for the lucrative group phase of the MTN African Champions League. The cotton pluckers from the north, who have made seven abortive attempts to reach this stage of the competition and stooped to their Algerian counterparts, Jeunesse Sportive of Kaybylie, 1-2 in the return leg, sailed through on a 4-2 aggregate.

The current MTN Elite I champions, in their first leg game in Garoua at the Roumde Adja stadium, bashed JS Kaybylie 3-0 to pick the first ticket for the group stage draws that will take place in Yaounde on May 17. The draws will pair the eight remaining teams into two pools.

Cotonsport, it should be recalled, were eliminated by JS Kaybylie last year at the same level of the competition, and they went back to the drawing board and righted their wrongs.

However, Cameroonian clubs have done very well this season as opposed to the past where they were always eliminated at this stage of the competitions.

The about FCFA 1.7 billion MTN African Champions league trophy was last won by a Cameroonian club in 1980, that is when Canon Yaounde defeated Bilima of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Cotonsport now becomes the third club after Sable of Batie and Canon Yaounde to reach the group phase of the prestigious event. They are now proving to their detractors that they are competent as majority of Cameroonians hold the conviction that Contonsport that has championed the league for about seven consecutive times is being favoured by the Cameroon Football Federation, FECAFOOT.

It is worth nothing that Cotonsport coach, French born, Denis Lavagne, had told the press when he was appointed that his ambition will be to win the Champions League.
