Kampala — Revelers usually go to Sabrinas Pub to watch music artistes perform, but last Sunday was different. The venue was filled up by rowdy muscular men locally known as kanyamas, who came to watch a live boxing matches.
One game almost came to an early end when one competotor in the super middle weight category, Hamza Wandera (brother to Kassim Ouma) received a shuttering punch from his opponent Charles Kakande. The punch pushed him to a tight corner and Kakande unleashed random blows until the referee stopped the round.
In the high-paced 5th round, Hamza gained courage and dominated the game with his nimble footwork, sharp jabs and punches. Hamza became the winner and champion in the super middle weight.
Super bantam weight fighter, Zubair Tazamaso did a 'criminal act' in the ring. He knocked his opponent and while he was still struggling top rise up; he punched him again. It was against boxing rules so the fight was canceled.
The boxing gala attracted hordes of Kampala fans who like discovering new entertaining sports.
By the end of the game; it was true the sport had joined Kampala's entertainment industry.
While the female spectators got scared as boxers unleashed sporadic punches to each other, the kanyamas shouted at the top of their voices in support of the unrelenting fighters.
Horrified women kept screaming: "Please, stop "
