Angola: Religious Affairs Institute Hails Ruling Party's President Speech

The director general of the National Institute for Religious Affairs, Fátima Viegas, Monday in Luanda hailed the speech delivered by the president of the ruling MPLA party, José Eduardo dos Santos, while opening the 3rd National Conference of his organisation held between May 9-10, in the capital.

According to the official, the speech was much socially-oriented, having focused mainly on men and women and pledged jobs and housing for the youths.

José Eduardo dos Santos who is also the head of State, underlined a particular attention to the female group of voters, probably, she said, taking into account that Angola has more women than men.

"We must seek to respond to the aspirations of women concerning the opportunities, security at workplace and within the family, gender equality and respect for their rights (...), I think that we must take the commitment to, in the next legislature, overcoming the goal of 30 percent of women presence in the MPLA parliamentary bench and its Government," said the party president in his speech.

Fatima Viegas recalled that the politician appealed to the women to invest in their training, showing capacity and skills so that when they are nominated, they can show participativeness in the decision making organs, for the sensitiveness, mode of management of affairs and be representative in the position they occupy.

On the other hand, INAR official praised the Government's recognition of the role played by the religious affairs entities, reflected on the work done by the churches in the country as, she added, the clergymen have been playing a relevant part in the civic and religious education of the population.

Fátima Viegas was alluding to the recent approval by the Cabinet Council of the laws on protection to self-employed workers, clergymen and religious entities, unveiled Wednesday last week by the minister of public administration, employment and social security, Pitra Neto.
