Nigeria: Dutse Alhaji, Kubwa, Gwagwalada May Face Demolition Soon

Some parts of Dutse Alhaji, Kubwa and Gwagwalada situated along flood prone areas risk being demolished by men of the Development Control soon, LEADERSHIP authoritatively revealed.

This development was disclosed to our reporter by a top official of Abuja Metropolitan Management Agency (AMMA) on condition of anonymity.

According to him, AMMA had gone round to survey all the river channels and blocked tributaries coupled with a comprehensive assessment of flood-prone areas and had since submitted their report to the FCT minister.

He further, explained that, their discovery was shocking as most settlers along Dutse Alhaji, Kubwa and Gwagwalada (Abbatoir area) are right on flooding channel and must be relocated before the rainy season establishes.

Our source said directives have already been given to the development control to expedite action by firstly giving an advanced notice to the residents of the affected areas prior to the actual demolition exercise.

"Action must be taken quickly now that the rains are not serious and the ground is strong for the bulldosers to move there and do their jobs. If we keep postponing or procrastinating, the rain will come and make it unsafe to move the machines there and definitely the floods will have very devastating consequences this season", he maintained.

He, therefore, called on the affected areas to heed the warning and ultimatum given to them by relocating to other places as no one will entertain calls for compensation should the floods strike.
