Nyanya
As the rainy season sets in, residents of Nyanya in the Federal Capital Territory, have called on the FCT minister, Dr. Aliyu Modibbo Umar, to address the issue of flooding in the area.
The call came as a result of the havoc wreaked on residents by rainstorm and floods over the weekend. The heavy rain which started at about 6pm on Saturday, caused floods in many parts of the satellite town with property worth thousands of naira destroyed.
Residents frowned at the neglect of successive administration in the provision of social amenities to the area and called on the minister to come to their rescue and save them from the eminent dangers, posed by flood.
In an interview with LEADERSHIP, Mrs. Ogechi, a resident of Nyanya whose compound was flooded during the rain, said it is unfortunate that such incident is happening in an area where over 45% of the government workforce resides.
She added, "it goes to show the level of neglect of government to its responsibility and duties to the people. How can you imagine a town like this in the FCT without a good drainage system, no access road and electricity supply is at a very low ebb". This is unacceptable.
Another resident, Mr. Chuks Onyeasor, a town planner said, the problem with flooding in Nyanya has to do with poor drainage system and indiscriminate dumping of refuse on water ways by residents.

The residents are calling on FCT administration especially the councillor representing the area to do something urgently.
