Angola: Health Authorities Register 28 Cholera Cases

13 May 2008

Ge — UíAbout 29 cases of cholera, from which two resulted in deaths, were registered last week, in northern Uíge province by the local health authorities, ANGOP learnt on Monday in this city from the provincial health director, Quiala Godi.

According to the official, one of the deaths was registered at the Negage Municipal Hospital coming from Dambi village, due to the late arrival at the hospital, whilst the other was not registered at a hospital in Caquiuia ward, next Uíge city.

He revealed that the first case of the epidemiological outbreak was detected on the second fortnight of April and samples were sent to the country's capital, Luanda, registering negative results, but the cases of diarrhoea continue emerging, a situation that intensified in the beginning of the current month.

The source criticized the lack of some bio-security materials (boots, overalls and gloves) and chlorine to be distributed to the population.
