GOVERNMENT will provide a guarantee of N$240 million to Telecom Namibia to connect the country to a new undersea cable that will provide faster Internet access through broadband technology.
At its latest meeting, Cabinet approved Namibia's participation in the African West Coast Cable Project, undertaken by the South African enterprise Broadband InfraCo.
The aim is to connect Africa to Europe with the modern submarine cable by May 2010, in time for the Soccer World Cup hosted by South Africa a month later.
The cable will provide more bandwidth capacity through broadband, resulting in high-speed Internet, voice, data and broadcasting transmissions between Africa and Europe.
