GERMINA Ndapua Shitaleni was elected as Mayor of Swakopmund and chairperson of the Town Council, taking the seat of Rosina //Hoabes, who stepped down after four years in this position.

The office bearers' elections of the Swakopmund Town Council was held on Friday, bringing in several changes.

Councillor Paul Rooi was nominated as Deputy Mayor and vice chairperson of the council.

Rooi was the former chairperson of the Management Committee, but now Johannes Ngolombe has been voted into that position, with //Hoabes now serving as deputy chairperson of the Management Committee.

In her acceptance speech, Shitaleni said she would continue taking Swakopmund forward as a safe place for its community and investors, and a beacon of socio-economic development in the region.

She said Swakopmund's healthy financial track record should also be an example of efficiency and transparency, and that this should be reflected in all municipal affairs.

The other members of the Management Committee are Priscilla Kavita and Trofimus Shikongo.

All the office bearers are members of Swapo.
