Gaborone — More than P988 000 has been stolen from Barclays Bank in Kasane area through the use of different MasterCards and Visa cards.
According to Police deputy public relations officer Mr Dipheko Motube the money was withdrawn from the bank's ATM machine in Kasane in the last two months.
Mr Motube said 11 cards were used in the unlawful transaction of P573 540 from Fun Fun Safaris, a Kazungula- based Safari Company during the period between February 13 and 19.
Another 12 cards were used to falsely obtain money amounting to P405 422 from Ultimate Safaris, a Kasane company in March.
In addition, he said another P1 100 was also falsely obtained from an individual's count on March 25 still in Kasane.
Superintendent Motube said although these crimes were quite common, they had never experienced them on such a large scale, adding that they had no idea why Kasane was being targeted by perpetrators. BOPA
