The last time Botswana national cricket team played at the international stage was in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and lost in the finals to the hosts after an impressive run.

That was in 2006 and last year Botswana failed to qualify for an international cricket event held in Las Vegas, USA.

However, the dreams of the national team of playing in an international event have become alive and it can qualify for the 2011 Cricket World Cup and play along countries such as South Africa, Sri Lanka, India and Pakistan.

Botswana is to participate in the ICC World Cricket League Division 5 tournament to be held in the Channel Island of Jersey from May 23 - 31.

Botswana Cricket Association (BCA) has however, said the team will be finalised during the week and the travel arrangements have not yet been made.

The Jersey tournament has brought together 12 countries divided in two groups. Botswana is in Group B with the hosts, Afghanistan, Japan, Bahamas and Singapore.

Group A has the United States of America together with Germany, Mozambique, Nepal, Norway and Vanuatu.

Information from the ICC says the top six from each group will progress to the knockout stage. The finalists will be promoted to the ICC World League Division 4, and will join Hong-Kong, Fiji, Tanzania and Italy in a six-team event that will take place in Dar es Salaam October 4 - 11.

Should Botswana make it to the top two of the Division 4 tournament, it will progress to Division 3 and book a place at the 2011 Cricket World Cup.
