Great North Tigers (GNT) will this weekend try to bring down the league curtain in style as they take on fifth placed Mahalapye Hotspurs in a game that will decide their league destiny.
This weekend offers the cops a chance to decide if they stay in the lower division and enjoy Police backing or shed the institutional tag and graduate to the competitive and big-spending Mascom Premier league. After losing to a less fancied and second-bottom placed Boston FC last weekend GNT face a litmus test as they prepare for the ultimate examination of their promotion credentials.
The scramble for a foothold at the top is still an open contest as only one point separates GNT from the chasing pack. Second placed Miscellaneous FC travel to Palapye for a date against Motlakase and top of their wish list is for GNT and third placed FC Satmos to lose their remaining two games.
GNT on the other hand will need maximum points from the weekend clash to be almost certain of bagging the automatic promotion place. A win would not set the champagne corks popping just yet as Miscellaneous, who are breathing heavily on the cops' necks, still have a chance to finish with 45 points.
Defeat, on the other hand, would take the battle to the wire and a nerve-wrecking home game against Motlakase in the last fixture.
GNT mouth-piece, Amogelang Mabote, has not given up hope despite the two consecutive losses against Satmos and Boston. "There is still hope after last weekend's impressive performance against Boston despite the result. It's not our habit at GNT to complain about referees, but the way they threw their weight behind our opponents last weekend left a lot to be desired. Our boys did the best they could but the chances that we were denied as well as some dubious decisions against us were so discouraging. We'll take that as a challenge in our next game and I have confidence that the players will give 110 percent."
For the past two seasons, GNT have been going through the worst frustrations in the league as they put up vigorous campaigns only to drop out of the championship race at the last hurdle. Mabote was this week in a positive mood and was confident that his side would go all the way and gain automatic promotion.

"We are determined to utilize the chance that we have to cling to the top. We have our sights set on the higher league next season."
