Francistown — In just a matter of days, two people were stabbed to death in different instances of bloodshed in the Phase IV area in Francistown.

Thirty-three-year-old Reuben Seleka met his tragic fate as he was mugged and stabbed numerous times on the dawn of Tuesday last week. According to the Kutlwano Police, Seleka left his Block Seven home at around 4am to attend his early morning shift at Choppies Supermarket, where he works as a baker. Seleka's blooded body was found in Block three, half a kilometer from his home, on a patch of irregularly flattened grass. The scene indicated to the police that a struggle by the deceased and thieving murderers had ensued before he was killed.

Officer Commanding NO.1 Francistown, Alakanani Makobo, told The Voice that the deceased had severe wounds on his stomach and back, which he says were caused by a sharp instrument. "We suspect it was a robbery that turned tragic because the shoes and jacket the deceased had left home wearing were missing," he said, adding that there was a P100 note found at the scene, but they could not say who had dropped it.

Makobo revealed that there was no direction in terms of investigations, as they neither had arrested anyone nor had they a suspect.

Makobo further revealed that they are also investigating another murder case in which a Motswana lady was found dead at the Phase IV Hall at around 10 pm on Monday. The lady is assumed to have been from a night out at nearby bars when she too was stabbed numerous times to death.

"We cannot reveal her name as some of the family members have not yet been informed."

Makobo, however, revealed that they were aware of an argument the deceased had with her boyfriend earlier that afternoon, saying they were on the hunt for the deceased's boyfriend.

As these were the first batch of murders reported in the area this year, the officer said: "I am very worried as this involves a human life, and when a life is stolen as simply as this, that worries more." He promised that, "We are not going to rest until the perpetrators of the crimes are brought to justice,"

Makobo pleaded with the public to assist them in the two cases. He said people should not fear informing the police, assuring them that their information would be handled in confidence.
