Namibia: Nujoma 'Pleasantly Ambushed' On Birthday

The Office of the Founding President of Namibia was yesterday a hive of activity as well-wishers from all walks of life flocked to congratulate Dr Sam Nujoma on his 79th birthday.
The Swapo Party secretariat led by the acting Secretary General Nangolo Mbumba were the first to visit Nujoma who is also the founding president of Swapo Party.
In his short message to the Founding President, Mbumba said the party decided to visit his office because the day is a "special day for a special person to Swapo Party and the entire country".
Mbumba wished Nujoma good health and said he wished the former president could become younger. The Swapo Party secretariat also sang a birthday song for Nujoma, led by Jerry Ekandjo.
Mbumba was accompanied by the Minister of Finance Saara Kuugongwela-Amadhila, Minister of Health Richard Kamwi, Minister of Regional and Local Government, Housing and Rural Development Jerry Ekandjo, Minister of Presidential Affairs Albert Kawana, Swapo Party Khomas Region Coordinator Michael Mwinga and SPYL Secretary Elijah Ngurare.
The party presented the former president with flowers.
Nujoma said the visit was a pleasant ambush and as a baby he was not supposed to talk too much.
He thanked the party secretariat and delivered his favourite slogan: "A people striving for the common good of all members of its society always emerges victorious."
Second to pay a visit to Nujoma were the Paragon Investment Holdings staff led by its directors Desmond Amunyela and Lazarus Jacobs.
The directors brought along more than 20 employees and shared a bottle of wine and a cake with Nujoma.
For some of the employees who saw the Founding President in person for the first time, it was an exciting experience and the employees requested pictures to be taken with Nujoma.
While sharing the cake with Paragon Investment employees, Nujoma advised the directors of the company on various business opportunities in Namibia.
The directors informed Nujoma that the company currently employs more than 40 employees from various cultural backgrounds. Jacobs claimed to be the oldest at the company, adding that most of the employees are young people.
Paragon Investment presented a bottle of champagne to Nujoma and said he must share it with his wife.
Paragon Investment Holdings was established in 2003 and is an investment company sourcing and managing various investment opportunities to assist in the growth of the Namibian economy and its people.

After Paragon Investment, the MVA were the next to meet Nujoma.
