National coordinator of Sierra Leone Israel Friendship Society (SLIFS) has reaffirmed Israel's commitment to boost the country's agriculture, technical/vocational education, infrastructure, tourism and mining.
Sirajin Rollings-Kamara made this disclosure to Vice President Sam Sumana at State House on Israel's 60th independence anniversary on Friday May 9.
He said the commitment was first expressed in a congratulatory message from the President of Israel Shimon Perez to President Ernest Bai Koroma after he took up office in September last year.
"The then Israeli Ambassador to Sierra Leone Daniel Pinhasi met with executive members of SLIFS and discussed a wide range of issues related to the development of Sierra Leone," Rollings-Kamara said.
He said over the past 60 years, Israel has developed into a modern and vibrant country with a strong and stable economy.
Rollings-Kamara recalled that Sierra Leone severed relationships with Israel as a result of an Organization of Africa Unity (OAU) resolution over the 1973 Yom Kippur war.
He called on the All Peoples Congress (APC) government to strengthen the already existing ties with Israel so as to explore the available opportunities therein, adding that the step would contribute a lot to the development of the country.
"We will not forget the contribution Israel made in this country, among others the construction of the Parliament Building, the Post Office and Bank of Sierra Leone. Our country needs new partners in development," he said.
Responding Vice President Sam Sumana lauded SLIFS for the bold initiative.
Sumana recalled his visit to Israel, which was a corporate one but he had cause to meet with that country's Deputy Prime Minister.

He said Israel is playing host to a number of Sierra Leoneans.
