Port Louis — Young writers and lovers of Mauritius, get to your quills and parchment and start scratching! Who knows, your love story might see the day. A story from my heart is the theme of a short story competition organized by the British Council and the ministry of Education and Human resources. It summarizes the whole concept of the prestigious "Le Prince Maurice Prize", which looks for love stories on an international ground.
You can compete in one of the two categories: Junior: (Forms I-IV) your story should not be more than 1,200 words; and Senior: (Forms V & VI) not more than 2,000 words. The closing date is next Tuesday , 20th May 2008.
The most alluring part of this competition is the prize. The winner in each category will have the opportunity to attend the 10-week English course free. Moreover, the winners and runners-up will receive an invitation to attend the workshop on creative writing given by famous British authors. Those lucky beginners in the field of writing will have the opportunity to have their stories published in an anthology of best young writers of Mauritius.
Furthermore, the BBC, which has been taking a close interest in Le Prince Maurice Prize, will be making a documentary film and the participating students will have the opportunity to find shots of their school featured in the film.
UK education fair : an opportunity to meet reps from prestigious universities
Breaking news for those interested in studying in the United Kingdom! The British Council has once again come forward with the Higher Education Fair on the 15-17th May at Swami Vivekananda International Conference Centre in Pailles. 30 UK institutions - that is quite a range to choose from. A few of those universities are: Imperial College known as being the fifth best university worldwide, the University of Buckingham, known as the only independent university in Britain, the University of Warwick and several others.
This will be an opportunity for potential students and their parents to learn more about the different UK universities and meet their representatives. They will on the spot learn about the place where they might go, and will be given leaflets for more details. A brief overview of what is expected from new students in terms of results and a general idea of the cost of studies will be available.
As for the courses that the students can apply for, whether it's Medicine, Law or IT, Accountancy, or Statistics or even Paleontology, everyone will find a field in which they would like to specialise. So, the venue is Swami Vivekananda from 15th to 17th May and an opportunity not be missed!
