Monrovia — Officials and members of the opposition Liberty Party are said to be divided over statement made last week by its political officer Isaac Jackson regarding the enforcement of traffic regulations.
According to a release, Liberty Party officials have dissociated the party from statement attributed to Mr. Jackson on Truth FM in which he said the Party was opposed to the enforcement of traffic regulations relative to carrying more than one person in the front seat of commercial vehicles.
In a release issued last week, Liberty Party informed the public that it had neither discussed nor issued any position statement on the latest action of the police.
As a matter of fact, the role of the Political Officer of the party is for such individual to be on top of unfolding political developments, and to respond in a tactical political manner when issues arise. A role he has continuously performed with an unparallel distinction, something that leads him to believe that his position as reported on Truth Fm violates no internal party rules or social norm to warrant such a reaction.
Mr. Isaac Jackson said the argument put forward by the Party for dissociating from his comments is absurd, pointless and preposterous for several reasons.
He argued that the police action regarding the enforcement of the traffic regulations was untimely, owing to the fact that large numbers of people are always seen awaiting the small number of commercial vehicles that are available.
Mr. Jackson called on the police to relax its regulation until government makes available public transportation.
The Liberty Party Political Officer said these developments have led him to the conclusion that his disagreement with the presumed party leader, Cllr. Charles Brumskine is the root cause of the party's reaction against him.
Jackson: "It can be recalled that he has on several occasions raised critical issues with Cllr. Brumskine concerning internal party democracy, especially as it relates to the protracted caretaker role being played by the counselor's henchman, Mr. Israel Akinsanya as acting Chairman of the Party since 2006 in sharp contrast to the arrangement that brought him on board. Mr. Jackson is also on record for drawing Cllr. Brumskine's attention to the dangers associated with ethicizing the Party, coupled with the level of insensitivity that the counselor has exuded against the known warriors of the Party."
Mr. Jackson reminded elements within the Liberty Party who are drumming the disassociation argument that it is exceedingly important to know a politician's personal position on issues.
Hence, for the Liberty Party to be seen silencing one of its executives, clearly indicates the fact it is seriously lacking in internal democracy and thus needs to be reformed!
Mr. Jackson's statement followed a comment he made on Truth FM when he was asked to comment on the enforcement of the police regulation, according to the release.
