Monrovia — A 40-year-old man, Musa Solomon Fallah has been re-arrested and detained at the Monrovia Central Prison for allegedly raping a 9- year-year-old girl in Clara Town in 2006, the National Human Rights Center of Liberia (NHRCL) has disclosed.
The group said through two of its member organizations assisted the office of the Montserrado County Attorney to effect the arrest in Monrovia on May 7, 2008, a release said.
NHRCL, in the release, urged the office of the Montserrado County Attorney to speedily try the accused on charges of crime of rape.
The group said Criminal Court 'A' rendered a guilty verdict last year and sentenced Fallah to life imprisonment, but the Suprme Court overturned the court verdict and sent the case back to the lower court for retrial for what it referred to as 'mistrial'.
According to the group, while the case was being retried, Criminal Court 'A' released defendant Fallah on April 16, 2008 for what the court referred to as state prosecutors' failure to produce witnesses in court.
Meanwhile, the rights group has assured the Office of Montserrado County Attorney that it is in readiness to produce witnesses in court to testify against the defendant at any time the case is re-assigned for trial.
The release said the action of the NHRCL is aimed at ensuring that the rape victim who is a minor receives transparent justice in the court of law.
