TO effectively tackle the rising crime situation in Rivers State the new Police Commissioner in the state, Mr. Hassan Bala said a police anti terrorist squad had been deployed to the state.

He said the deployment would take the security situation in the state to the next level.

Though he was silent on the number of those sent to the state but he expressed hope that with the deployment there would be a drastic reduction in the crime level in the state. He said already his command had arrested some suspected militants who allegedly kidnapped three women in the state and also raped them.

According to him, they were picked at Ikpokiri fishing community in Ogu Bolo local government area. And were being interrogated.

"Some three women were allegedly kidnapped and taken to an island. They allegedly raped them. So my investigators moved in and made some arrest. We are interrogating them. The women have been released and they have made useful statement to us.

Continuing, that the new Mobile Police squadron MOPOL 48 at Ahoada would also be used to protect strategic facilities.

He said some of those in the anti terrorist squad would undergo further training abroad on combat and other police duties.
