Well-known Ongwediva businessman Edgar Eddie Alves who stands accused of having defrauded Pupkewitz Mega Build of about N$800,000, made his first appearance in the Windhoek Magistrate's Court on Monday.
Alves, who is also the owner of Ongwediva Autohaus Garage and Club Exclusive, is accused of having defrauded Pupkewitz Mega Build together with his former manager, Manny Diaz.
He appeared before magistrate Elsie Schickerling, while Linus Samaria prosecuted.
Alves faces charges of fraud or alternatively theft.
During the proceedings before court his rights to legal representation were explained to him and he opted for a private lawyer.
His case was remanded to June 30 2008 to enable the police to complete their probe.
The magistrate also referred Alves' case to the Eenhana Magistrate's Court so that he could stand trial with Diaz his co-accused, who was arrested some time back on similar charges.
Both accused have been granted bail of N$10 000 with a list of bail conditions attached.
Alves was ordered to hand in all his travel documents to the investigating officer and he was sternly warned by the court not to interfere with State witness or police investigators.
The theft involving the duo from Pupkewitz their employer is said to have occurred over a period of time. And there is now strong speculation that proceeds from the crime could have financed the businesses owned by Alves at Oshikango.

Alves was previously employed in the transport division, responsible for transporting merchandise from Pupkewitz Mega Build to the new warehouse on instructions from his manager Diaz.
