The trial of 27-year-old former security guard Bonifatius Konstantinus, accused of killing schoolteacher Wilhemina Nangula Hamukwaya last year, was postponed by the Windhoek High Court to today.

Konstantinus stands accused of killing the 37-year-old schoolteacher at Ekombo village in the district of Oshakati in March 2007, before stealing her Toyota Hilux pick-up truck, registration number N 6213 SH.

The accused who remains in police custody faces six charges - of murder, attempted murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, theft, possession of a firearm without a licence and possession of ammunition.

A summary of substantial facts contained in the charge sheet has it that the accused ambushed Hamukwaya while she was driving from school. He pointed the shotgun at the deceased and shot her once in the chest.

The accused also threw the deceased and her three-year-old son out of the vehicle.

Hamukwaya died on the spot as a result of the gunshot wound, while the accused made away with her vehicle as well as all her items that were inside the vehicle. Her son survived the incident.

During the period of March 2 to March 4, 2007, the accused made use of the deceased's vehicle as a taxi, transporting various fare-paying passengers in and around Oshakati.
