Major General Adolphe Nshimirimana, head of the Burundian intelligence service, has accused unnamed politicians to want to usurp power through the international courts.
"Today, certain politicians want to obtain power after having sold out their political adversaries in the international courts", he stated recently in an interview granted to the "Burundi Tribune".
CNDD-FDD, currently in power, he said "will be necessary to pay attention to these politicians who are not elected by the people (.) nobody can be against the will of the people".
But according to him, if Burundians find that a court is needed, they will have their wish fulfilled. Burundian citizens still wonder who are the planners and the executants in all these genocides", he adds.
"What will be more helpful to the Burundians is the Truth and Reconciliation Commission", he added.
Major General Nshimirimana was Chief of Staff of the CNDD-FDD rebellion. His former companion, Colonel Vital Bangirinama, who before leaving the country, was found guilty of having executed in July 2006 around thirty civilians accused of being members of the FNL, the current rebellion, in Muyinga in the north of the country.

President Pierre Nkurunzinza recently admitted over Voice of America (VOA) that he had intervened to prevent the arrest of Bangirinama. This intervention was intended, he stated, to prevent a mutiny from the members of the army, former CNDD-FDD.
