Tanzanians were on Monday treated with a rare admission by the Government.

That is the Government machinery is weak in contract negotiations.

Add that to selfishness of the very few in this rare profession, you have billions of shillings in taxpayers' money drained down the ditch.

This is so disappointing. But to what extent does this claim that the Government lacks enough negotiators holds water? The answer is very little.

We say so because for years the Government chose to ignore local brains in our academic and research institutions. Not any longer.

That is why we support and commend

revelation by Prime Minister Mizengo Pinda that the Government is to form a special ad hoc committee to help it in future deals.

However, as we think about the future it is extremely important for this nation to rethink and review current contracts.

We are saying this in a view of seeing those favoured by the current contracts to emulate a win-win situation.

Contracts are binding. But where the nation was conned through corrupt means, then it has the right to demand review of such contracts.

We believe it is in the best interest investors as well to live in harmony with wananchi.

And those in this dirty game can only do that by stopping milking dry poor Tanzania. All we can ask is their full cooperation.

Short of that, the Government must be ready to pay the price, terminate shady contracts, no matter the cost.
