Prescott Cup and Damu Pevu Shield schools' rugby leagues kick off on Wednesday.

Defending champions Nairobi School will visit Mang'u while Floodlit champions Alliance host Kiambu. The only match in Nairobi is between St. Mary's School and Lenana while Rift Valley Academy host Strathmore School.

The 41-year old Prescott Cup rugby league got a timely Sh500,000 sponsorship from Coca-Cola on Monday.

Frank Sabwa, the Kenya Rugby Football Union secretary, said it was a good gesture by Coca-Cola, who are returning to rugby sponsorship after more than three years.

He said the support would trickle down to age-grade rugby, which is currently sponsored by the rugby patrons' society.

"This is where the talent is. The development of skills at the base is a good investment and good value for the sponsors because they will see the effects when the players move on to club rugby," Sabwa added.

The sponsorship will go towards running the league, purchase of trophies and other administrative costs. Coca-Cola also sponsors schools' soccer, the Copa Coca-Cola.

Fred Ollows, the KRFU development manager, said some of the players currently doing duty for clubs and country have benefited from schools rugby.

The Prescott Cup structure is being tried out in Nakuru, under the Tom Karungu Cup.
