Muslims in the country have been called upon to brace up for the education of their children, to enable them contribute to the much desired socio-economic development of the country.

Managing Director of the Jaiz International Bank Plc, an Islamic Bank, Alhaji Mustapha Bintube, who gave the advice in a paper delivered at this year's lecture of the Founder of the Ansarul -Islam Society of Nigeria, Late Muhammad Kamaludeen Education Foundation; said knowledge and skills were the key ingredients for enhancing children's capacity in every respect, including financial matters.

Bintube, who was represented by the bank's General Manager, Alhaji Hassan Usman spoke on, 'Strengthening the Financial Capacity of the Muslims: An Islamic Banking Perspective'. He said a study by African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) indicated that poverty tends to be lower in the Southern Zones than in the Northern Zones, noting that Muslims needed to take education more seriously if they are to improve their capacity and make a difference in today's world, just as the earlier Muslims did.

"The current laissez-faire attitude within the Muslim Community is not conducive for capacity building. We need many more Ansarul Islam all over the country. We also need them to cooperate at state and national level, working under a blue print that is aimed at enhancing the capacity of the Nigerian Muslims", he said.

Bintube observed that average Muslims are the poorest people in Nigeria, just as the nation's economy is being controlled by non Muslims, who are also leading in almost all the professions and academics.

While every Muslim must learn to know Allah, His attributes and how to worship Him in accordance with the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad Rasul, Bintube stressed that this worship should be accompanied with the quest for knowledge and skills. The Muslim Ummah therefore needs to be more organised.
