About 19 persons were yesterday, feared dead in a road accident that occurred along Benin-Agbor expressway involving a minibus that veered off the road before somersaulting.

With all the occupants burnt to death and the figures on the plate number no longer clear, one could neither figure out where the vehicle was coming from nor where it was headed.

An eye witness who simply gave his name as Peter told Thisday that he was sitting in the front of his shop when he was startled by an explosion.

He said that the ill-fated bus somersaulted thrice apparently as a result of a burst tyre before it was engulfed in a fireball.

Officials of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) who were on the spot of the the accident watched helplessly as the victims and the bus were burnt to ashes .

An FRSC official, Mr. Ifada said that the Commission was helpless as the vehicle and the occupants had been completely burnt before they arrived the scene.

"We have sent for body bags to put the corpses before taking them to the mortuary,"he said.

He lamented that the situation will be difficult because all the items that would have assisted in identifying the victims like the bags in the vehicle were all burnt , adding that the Commission was not only going to find it very difficult to trace the owner of the bus but as well find it difficult to contact families of the victims.
